Beaconsgate Boar Hunt and Feast

December 7, 2013

The holidays are coming, and so is the Annual Beaconsgate Boar Hunt and Feast sponsored by the Province of the Mists!

We will be at our traditional site, Camp Herms, El Cerrito, CA. Site opens at 10am, and closes at 10pm. In addition to the THE HUNT during the day, we will have many activities within the hall (dancing, singing, music, games) for non-fighters and tired fighters, so bring musical instruments and board games. Banners to help make the hall more festive are especially welcome! Please plan to bring something for your lunch if you are coming on site early.

From the South: Take Hwy 80 to El Cerrito and exit at Central Ave. Turn left on San Pablo Ave and right on Moeser Ln. At Arlington Rd, turn left. Turn right on Thor's Bay Rd. Follow signs to Camp Herms.

From the North: Take Hwy 80 to the Cutting Blvd exit and turn left. Turn right on San Pablo Ave, then left on Potrero Ave. At Arlington Rd, turn right. Then turn left on Thors Bay Rd and follow the signs to Camp Herms.

For those of you who may not know, the Boar Hunt is a fighting activity, with fighters armed with two maces playing the part of the Boar. Hunters are fighters armed only with spears, and "hounds" are fighters armed with daggers. There are also unarmored "dogs", who seek out the boars and bark when they are discovered -- this can be a great role for a mature child accompanied by a responsible adult. If there is enough interest (and a qualified volunteer marshal), we may add a hunt for rapier fighters.

THE FEAST will begin around 5 pm, subject to event considerations. The cook for the Feast this year is Alfar Utherson. Please contact him if you have any concerns about allergies, or if you are a vegetarian and are planning to attend the feast.

$15 per person. Please get make your reservations early as the Feast tables tend to fill up fast! Checks should be made out to “SCA – Province of the Mists” and mailed to Michael Clark, 2322 Russell Street, Berkeley 94705 . These tickets will be available for pick up at the sign-in table. Reservations received after the available seats are filled can be either placed on a waiting list in case of cancellations, or checks can be returned – let me know which you prefer. Please include your email address if you wish to be notified of the status of your reservation request. We plan to also have tickets available for purchase at selected upcoming events (TBA) in the Mists and Cynagua.

The site fee is a free-will donation and there is no need to pay for the feast to come and enjoy the activities of the day! The Hunt will be held rain or shine and is more fun the more people we have in armor!
